Our partner school Liverpool School of English (LSE) is near the centre of the city surrounded by shops, bars and cafes. It is at the heart of the academic area of Liverpool situated between two universities and other education institutions. LSE has 8 modern classrooms, a quiet study area, free internet access and a patio garden area where you can relax and socialise with your new friends. 

The school was established in 1999 and is open throughout the year except for 2 weeks at Christmas.

Adult programmes

General English
General Englishclasses introduce the main grammatical concepts used in everyday communication such as structure, syntax, vocabulary and pronunciation. The focus is on English for spoken communication, however all skills are taught.

International Academic Year
We offer you a year long course which will enable you to learn English quickly and accurately through a variety of courses. 

A typical academic programme would consist of the following courses: 

• 12 weeks of General English (Intermediate)
• 12 weeks of General English (Upper Intermediate)
• 12 weeks of Upper Intermediate General English with IELTS Exam

IELTS Exam Preparation
This course is designed for people who want to study at an English speaking Further Education College or University. It will help you to cope with the language demands of studying in English. As well as listening and speaking skills, there is a focus on academic writing and exam techniques to prepare you for the widely recognised IELTS which is accepted by university admissions throughout the world as an indicator of your proficiency in the English language.

Cambridge Exam Preparation
We provide preparation for the two most popular Cambridge exams  (First Certificate (FCE) and Advanced (CAE)) alongside our General English courses. You study techniques for tackling each exam task effectively. There are periodic tests, review sessions and practice exams prior to the actual Cambridge exam.

Young learners programmes

Summer School Residential

Morning:
You have 3 hours of English classes in the morning in a class suitable for your level. 

Afternoon:
You have two afternoon excursions to places of cultural interest. You have two afternoon option sessions such as language, sport, or project work. Your Friday afternoons are free-time.

Evening:
You have a full and varied evening activity programme included in your course fee. This includes activities such as discos, film screenings, Irish dancing, and quiz nights. 

Weekends:
You have one full day excursion each week to a place of interest. You have the option of joining a pre-arranged full weekend excursion at an extra cost. 

Accommodation:
Purpose built single study bedrooms with showers and toilets situated close by. All your meals are included. 

Summer School Homestay

Morning:
You have 3 hours of English classes in the morning in a class suitable for your level. 

Afternoon:
You have two afternoon excursions to places of cultural interest. You have two option sessions such as language, sport, or project work. Your Friday afternoons are free-time. 

Evening:
You have one evening activity per week included in the price but you have the option of joining other pre-arranged social activities. 

Weekends:
You have one full day excursion each week to a place of interest. You spend one day with your host family experiencing a traditional English family day.

You have the option of joining a pre-arranged full weekend excursion at an extra cost.

Accommodation:
Private single bedroom in the home of a host family within easy access to the school. Breakfast and evening meal are taken with the host family and you are provided with a packed lunch to take to school. Host families treat you as a member of the household eating together and sharing living accommodation.

Homestay

Our Accommodation Officer takes a great deal of care in selecting the most appropriate family for you. We look in particular for people who can offer a warm, friendly welcome and who understand the needs of overseas students. 

• Accommodation is in the home of a local host family. 
• All host families are within a short bus ride from the school.
• Host families treat you as a full member of the household, you eat together and share all the living areas
• You have your own private single bedroom.
• Shower and toilet facilities are located close to bedrooms
• Breakfast and evening meals are eaten with the family every day
• The host family provides a packed lunch to take to school every weekday
• All families have been screened for your safety and security.

Residential

This option is only available at certain times of the year.

Accommodation is in purpose built, single study bedrooms on or near a university campus in Liverpool. 

• All rooms are furnished with a desk, a wardrobe and drawers.
• Shower and toilet facilities are located close to the bedrooms.
• Breakfast lunch and evening meal are provided at the restaurant on campus.
• You can use the facilities of the University campus

Hotel & Guesthouses

Accommodation in a hotel or guest house is possible. However we do not recommend it unless you have specific reasons to do this. You will have a more social experience and be exposed to much more language and culture if you stay with one of our carefully selected host families. 

We can recommend a wide range of reasonably priced 2-5 star hotels and guest houses.

Leisure

We organise a wide variety of activities and we are careful to offer something for everyone. There are opportunities to enjoy playing sport, visiting places of cultural interest or going shopping or in the evening theatre trips, discos, quiz nights and social events. On weekends we offer a variety of one day excursions, full weekend excursions and social events.

Activities are at an additional cost except if booking Summer School Residential or Summer School Homestay courses where some are included in the course fees.

Flights and Airports

The cost of transfer to Liverpool from Manchester Airport is included in your course fee if you are travelling as part of a group, on the condition that flight information is received in writing by Liverpool School of English at least 2 weeks prior to arrival. We can also arrange for individual student transfers from Manchester Airport, but please note that this will incur an extra cost. Alternatively, students should arrange their own transport to Liverpool. Detailed information on how to travel to Liverpool from Manchester or London Heathrow airports, together with approximate costs, is provided in the Student Handbook. You will receive this Handbook before departing your home country.

Student visa information

1. Students attending LSE from EU countries do not need a visa to enter the UK.

2. Students from non-EU countries will need to arrange a visa to study in the UK. They should contact their nearest British Embassy before travelling and allow plenty of time for their visa to be processed before booking a flight to the UK.

How do I apply for a visa?

If you need a visa to come to the UK, send us your application form with a GBP50 non-refundable registration fee. We will send you a Visa Invitation Letter when you have paid 25% of the course fee or sent us a letter from your employer confirming sponsorship.

If I want to extend my student visa, what shall I do?

We can help you to fill in the application form and send the necessary documents. You can visit the Home Office in East Croydon. You can also extend your visa in your country at the embassy.
