Five things to do in October

We've pulled together five things which we think you might like to do this month.

You can also browse a general What's On listing here, including details of LAL's excursions this month.

Apple Day food and craft festival

t's apples galore at Cockington Court, Torquay, over coming weeks as Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust prepares for Cockington's 17th annual Apple Day on Sunday 18 October. The event promises to be packed full of food, crafts and entertainment for the whole family.

The highlight of the long-standing event is the pressing of four tonnes of apples on Cockington's Victorian press. A team of Trust volunteers will hand-pick all the apples from Churston Orchard near Brixham. The apples will then be washed and milled in preparation for pressing on the five-tonne press during Apple Day.

Apple Day events are held across the country at this time of year to celebrate local diversity and regain a sense of local pride.

Macbeth Underground

London-based theatre group C-Company is bringing Shakespeare's Macbeth back to Kents Cavern. Macbeth in the Caves is an interactive performance with some scary moments and a great way to experience Shakespeare's famous play.
Kents Cavern in Torquay is a prehistoric cave labyrinth where the audience are pulled down into a world of savagery. As the audience is led round by the porter the story unfolds as witches come out of walls and ghosts hide among the stalagmites. At the heart of our civilised world what lies beneath us …underground or deep in our hearts? Blood will have blood…

For lovers of the play it will be a truly unique experience in this setting. Tickets are selling quite fast and we recommend booking as soon as possible, because  the audience is strictly restricted to only 40 people a show.

LAL Torbay will be running an excursion to this performance on 29th October, which will cost £20 including transport - ask at the Excursions desk for information.
