Notes from Argentina

We recently welcomed students from Argentina to LAL Torbay. We asked them to tell us about their home country.

Argentina is a really big country. It has all kinds of scenery, foods, drinks and celebrations.

The best Argentinian food for me is “asado”. The asado is a kind of barbecue that we do on a parrilla, which you eat with your friends or family.

A traditional drink is the “mate” which is a kind of tea that you share with your friends. It consists of a cup made of wood with some herbs in it and hot water and you drink it through a metal straw.

My hometown is called Concepción del Uruguay, it is very beautiful, the weather is usually great and warm. There are beautiful beaches, and every year there is a beach party which lasts for a week.

Argentina is a wonderful big country. The scenery is really beautiful. It’s fantastic.

Everyone speaks Spanish and we are very proud of our history. The weather is usually warm, and some days it is too hot, it is cold in winter.

Our typical food is called Asado (similar to a barbecue) and everyone eats it a lot.

In Argentina there are a lot of all kinds of foods but our typical foods are:
The Asado – it consists of meat (usually beef) cooked in a thing that here, in England, we call a barbecue but it is only similar to it.

The emponadas – the emponada is like a pasty but just smaller and we don’t really put potatoes in it. There are lots of kinds of emponadas for example; ham and melted cheese.

Argentina is a big country, bigger than England. We have many different types of scenery. In the north-east we have “Cataratas del Iguazu” (waterfalls). In the east and the south-east there are The Andes, mountains with lots of snow, and there is the Aconcagua (the second biggest mountain in all the world) and the glacier Perito Moreno. In Argentina we have good beaches like Mar del Plata.
