Torbay is a traditional English seaside resort, but it sometimes feels more like the south of France. The resort is known as the 'English Riviera' because of its excellent climate, sub tropical plants, elegant buildings and harbours full of luxury yachts. The three Riviera towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham surround the sheltered Bay which forms an ideal sun trap and boasts many Blue Flag beaches.
Each town lends its own individual character to a holiday, so whether it is for a relaxing break enjoying local food, an action-packed visit out on the waves, or a fun-filled trip, the English Riviera offers something for everyone. The three towns have a combined population of approximately 120,000 and the resort attracts 1.5 million visitors every year from around the world.
You can enjoy a wide range of events in Torbay throughout the year, from powerboat championships to an Agatha Christie festival. There are also four theatres, cinemas and a good range of nightclubs and bars to entertain you, and award-winning restaurants to tempt you. It's all here – waiting for you.
There is detailed information about Torbay in the LAL Torbay Guide for students.
